How long does a kitchen remodel take?

· Christo Contracting

It depends on scope, and anyone who quotes you a timeline before seeing the kitchen is guessing. What’s honest to say up front: a cosmetic refresh is measured in days to weeks, a full remodel in weeks to months, and the difference is driven by a handful of knowable factors — so the right question isn’t “how long does a kitchen take” but “what about my kitchen makes it longer or shorter.”

The phases every kitchen goes through

  1. Design and ordering. Cabinets and some countertops are made to order — this phase often runs longer than the construction itself, and it happens before anything gets demolished.
  2. Demo. Fast and loud. Usually days, not weeks.
  3. Rough-in. Plumbing, electrical, and framing changes, then inspection. Layout changes live here — this is where moving the sink costs time.
  4. Surfaces. Drywall, flooring, cabinet installation.
  5. Countertop templating. A common surprise: counters are measured after cabinets are in, then fabricated — the gap between templating and install is set by the fabricator’s queue.
  6. Finish. Backsplash, fixtures, hardware, paint, punch list.

How to pin down a real number

Get the timeline in writing as part of a written estimate, phase by phase, after a walk-through of your actual kitchen. That’s the only version worth planning around — and it’s how we do it.
